The 2025 snow season has already delivered some of the most memorable moments in years, with alpine resorts across New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and Tasmania reporting strong visitation, great snow conditions and a renewed sense of energy in mountain communities.

Visitors have been treated to consistent snowfalls, excellent snowmaking conditions and a string of blue-sky days that have created ideal conditions for skiing, boarding and snowplay. From new lifts and record visitation to vibrant après scenes and smiling faces, the story of this winter has been one of momentum right across the industry.

In New South Wales, Perisher marked a “history-making” milestone with the opening of the $26 million Mt Perisher 6 chairlift, which has transformed access to Mount Perisher. The introduction of the Epic Australia 4-Day Pass has also proven a hit, making snow holidays more accessible for casual skiers and riders. Thredbo enjoyed strong visitation through July and August, with Uni Week doubling in size compared to last year and strong growth across beginner and premium lesson programs. Selwyn celebrated its busiest ever day and week during the July school holidays, with local businesses in Adaminaby saying the town felt “as lively as it did before the bushfires.” Charlotte Pass also had cause to celebrate, with all lifts spinning from opening day and a record number of people moved on oversnow transport one Sunday in August – alongside glowing guest feedback that the resort is buzzing.

In Victoria, Falls Creek invested in a major snowmaking upgrade on Drover’s Dream, opening more beginner and intermediate terrain earlier than ever. The resort’s whole-village collaboration, from “midweek magic” deals to a valet service helping families move their equipment easily to and from the slopes, has defined its season. Hotham has been buzzing with the launch of the Big D progression freestyle park, a new focal point for riders of all ages, while relocating its ski schools into Hotham Central has been hailed as a gamechanger for families. Mt Buller has celebrated 75 years of Ski Patrol this year and hosted a hugely successful National Interschools event, while across the industry snowplay visitation has surged and more visitors from culturally diverse backgrounds have discovered the mountains. Guests have spoken of the great vibe created by timely snowfalls, snowmaking windows and plenty of sunny days, reminding many of just how special skiing in Victoria can be.

Corin Forest in the ACT has welcomed over 2,000 visitors per day on peak weekends and holiday periods, thanks to the installation of two new snow factories that allowed the resort to open all terrain from the King’s Birthday weekend and remain open all season. In Tasmania, Ben Lomond is celebrating its longest and most successful season ever, with commercial performance more than doubling compared to last year. That success will enable accelerated investment in snowmaking and infrastructure, ensuring the resort can meet the rising demand from skiers, snowboarders and snowplay visitors.

Snow Resorts Australia CEO Josh Elliott, said the season’s success reflects both the strength of the industry and the passion of visitors “This winter has been one of the most positive in recent memory. From record visitation days and thriving family holidays, through to new lifts, improved terrain and new energy across our resorts, it’s clear Australians love their time in the mountains. The feedback from our members is that visitors are smiling, engaged and already planning their next trip. It’s a fantastic reminder of how important the snow season is, not only to our resorts, but to our alpine communities more broadly.”

And the best may still be yet to come!  Resorts received up to 70cm of fresh snow last weekend, setting up excellent conditions across every alpine region. With fantastic skiing and boarding set to continue right through September, visitors can take advantage of discounted lift passes and accommodation – making this spring one of the best opportunities in years to enjoy the snow!
