Australia’s alpine resorts welcome the recent Victorian and NSW government announcements giving a green light for the Victorian and NSW alpine resorts to be able to open for skiing and boarding from 22 June, 2020. This gives renewed optimism and certainty for the local communities and the 23,000 jobs that rely on alpine tourism, much of that located in regional Victoria and NSW. With those announcements the resorts are now preparing for ski area operations with a view to opening on or around 22 June, pending snow conditions. The resorts are working hard ensure the resorts are safe for guests and staff and the mountain communities when they open, and are carefully reviewing and preparing for changes to many aspects of the visitor experience with the safety of guests and staff at the forefront of every decision.

FAQs

Exactly when will my favourite resort open for the 2020 ski season?

Please check the website of your favourite resort on a regular basis. This will bring you up to date with all of the latest news and information, much of which will be vital if you plan to visit one or more of the resorts this season.

How will things be different this season?

Skiers and snowboarders should plan for a very different snow experience this winter as we all adapt to the constraints of coronavirus.  Australians are now familiar with the shared responsibility of social distancing, reduced capacity in venues and hygiene measures.  The snow season is going to be extension of these ‘new normal’ practices and we are confident people will rise to the challenge and adjust to some new and necessary procedures in order to be able to get back on the slopes.  Patience will be a virtue this season.

Can I just turn up, or will I need to book ahead this season?

Skiers and boarders will be the need to plan ahead like never before, booking as many aspects of their resort holiday in advance as possible, including lift tickets and accommodation.

What are the new things I need to remember this season?

For the sake of all of us, skiers and snowboarders will need to bear in mind the Four Pillars of the New Normal:

  • Social distancing.
  • Strict hygiene and sanitisation protocols.
  • Download the COVIDSafe app, and have it running while in-resort.
  • If you feel unwell, travel nowhere else but to seek medical advice.

Will all resort services be available this season?

The full range of products and services normally associated with the alpine resorts may not be available in 2020. Once each individual resort has finalised their operating plan for winter 2020 they will release more details regarding lift tickets, lessons and other resort services.  Please check your favourite resort’s website on a regular basis for the latest news and information.
